1. What is a Dye Sub Photo Printer?

The term ‘dye sub’ has become a popular term for this type of photo printer. To be absolutely accurate the proper name is ‘Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer’ or ‘D2T2’ – although this is a bit of a mouthful!

Dye Sub printers have been on the market for more than ten years now and have proved to be a great way of producing printed images (photographs however are produced through the traditional methods with photo chemistry).

The process uses a thermal print head and a dry ink medium, on a roll, to produce photos accurately and rapidly (the faster printers can produce a 6x9” image in about 15 seconds). The results are dry and ready to hand to your customer.

This is why dye sub photo printers have become such an essential piece of equipment for what are referred to as ‘Event photographers’, who wish to produce images quickly for sale.

2. Why hire?

We are aware that there are many people out there who are looking to buy a dye sub photo printer. Some of those people maybe looking to get into Event Photography where a dye sub printer is a must, others may be needing one for a one off event, like a corporate event or a school/college function.

Hiring a printer gives the individual the opportunity to try the idea out, and see if it is something that will work as an idea. You need to bear in mind that in some cases it is not practical to constantly hire, and that you may as well take the plunge and simply buy one.

This would be the case with an individual who may feel that it is only likely to be needed if they have job every so often. Event photography is something that would require commitment on a long term basis, and the economics dictate that owning your own printer is the best option.

There are times when someone has already got a printer, but they may have a requirement every so often where they need extra capacity, and on these occasions it is useful to hire.

3. What Printers are available for hire?

Ultimately we would hope to hire out most of the dye sub printers we sell, at the moment it includes the following:-

  • HITI P525L
  • DNP DS-RX1
  • DNP DS80

4. What do I get when I hire?

Media (the paper and ink roll) is sold saparately

5. Why use Photomart for a Printer hire?

For starters Photomart is very experienced in the field of selling and supporting Dye Sub printers, we have worked as a major UK distributor with companies like Mitsubishi, Sony , and ICI Imagedata for a number of years. We have a large customer base, and have sold a large proportion of the equipment being used succesfully in the UK.

Photomart offer a choice, not just with hire, but also in purchase.

As well as the printers, we sell the card photo mounts in various types and sizes, we also sell the studio equipment that is often required, including backdrops, and lighting.

6. How long is the Rental period?

The normal minimal rental period is one week, although you can extend this, however there is a point at which this becomes financially impractical, and you may decide that buying a machine would be best.

7. How much will it cost to hire?

Please see the specific printer in the table at the top of this webpage.

8. How soon can you hire?

It is best to give us and yourself a little time, you may want to discuss with us what you are doing, and when you need it for. It is also wise to give yourself time to be used to the printer. Though they are relatively easy to operate, the last thing you want to do is turn up at an event and be unprepared.

With regard to our supply on the printers we usually have ready stock, that can go out and be with you the next day (Saturdays delivery will cost a premium). Delivery charge is included in the deposit which will be deducted, a total of £25 (plus VAT) for delivery and return.

9. How much print media do I get with the printer?

You can have as much print media as you like.

All you need to do is pay for the media you take away, and you will be refunded for the media you do not use.

Remember do not open the media box unless you are going to use it. This makes returning the item easier for you and us!

10. Support

Give us a call on 020 8527 6006 during weekdays, between 9.30 - 18.00, and we will help you solve your problem as soon as possible.

11. Returning the printer

In order to return the printer you can either bring it to our showroom or arrange collection from your premises which is included in the deposit price and will be deducted at a cost of £25 (plus VAT).

Once the printer, along with other supplies are returned, we will read the counter and check the supplies.

We will then see how many prints you have done, and we will then calculate the print cost, which will be deducted from the deposit.

12. Can you buy the hire printer?

Well, yes, there is that option, and we wil consider it on an individual basis. The warranty will of course be reduced. A lot of people who decide to have a printer may consider the different brands we sell, or decide to buy a new machine, which will carry a full warranty and zero usage.

14. When will I receive my deposit back?

Please be aware that it can take around 6 days after the printer is returned to us before you receive your deposit back. BACS payments usually take 1-3 working days.
